Hannah Richell's new novel is an elegantly plotted page-turner, spanning three generations of a family with all its secrets and lies. Finding my creativity again has given me some release.
Hannah Richell’s The House of Tides (Grand Central Publishing, digital galley) is more Rosamund Pilcher family saga than du Maurier gothic, but it does feature a shabby mansion on the Dorset coast. The Tides family has a love/hate relationship with Clifftops, especially Helen, a classics professor who lets her husband talk her into moving to his family’s ancestral pile.

Judy’s review. This gripping book is a sweeping generational saga exploring the tragic secrets of what was once an ordinary, happy family. Dora, the now-grown-up youngest daughter, is pregnant at the start of the novel, delighted and totally happy in her relationship with young artist Dan, but deeply ambivalent about her fitness to be a mother.
She now lives with her husband and two young children in Sydney, Australia. Hannah Richell Like the river that runs by their childhood home, the waters may seem calm and comforting on the surface, yet underneath are hidden swells that can also threaten and drag you under. Now, with Lucy’s hastily announced wedding, they are reunited with each other and their separated parents for the first time in many years.
